I noticed them too but never thought to look into them like you did, awesome. would love to hear your other interpretations of subtle things in this film, its got to be one of my favorites. I love how it doesn't follow the rules like you mention, and the slow buildup really does put the audience into that lazy summer right there with the characters, which allows the relationship between them to be the focus. your critique is spot on too, i would've liked to have felt more attachment to the characters.
